Here is some important information to help you progress in your Karate Do training. Remember, everybody is different, and we all learn at different rates, time, or speed. Do not be frustrated or impatient about your progress. Karate Do is an art and takes time, discipline, and dedication to develop.
- First lesson to remember, always be POLITE. Greet Sensei and all seniors (black belts) by bowing, and acknowledging their presence.
- Make an effort to be ready to start class on time.
- Line up according to rank; senior members are at the front and to the right hand side as you face the front of the class. Move to your positions in an energetic lively manner, keeping your line straight and even.
- Do not be distracted by outside influences, i.e. day dreaming, surrounding sounds or disturbances, or how others are performing. Maintain full concentration at all times, and an alert and positive attitude towards your training, and instructors.
- Do not worry about performing a technique well the first time you do it or see it, its ok, we have all gone through the same as you in the beginning. In time you will improve and the path will become easier.
- At the beginning practice according to your body condition and capability. As you approach your training with the right mind /attitude, your condition and capabilities will increase dramatically, giving you a new sense of wellbeing, feeling relaxed, flexibility, strength, mental alertness and a new-found sense of confidence.
- Remembering your techniques, katas and forms is difficult at the beginning, but don’t get frustrated learning a little bit at a time. Practice as much as you can on your spare time. Before you know it, you will be cruising through your forms/katas.
- Feel free to ask Sensei or the senior students to help you perfect a technique or prepare you through to your next level / grading. We are there to help you achieve your goals.
- Concentrate on your basic techniques. Basics will lay the foundations for your future training; a good basic technique is the key for future advancement.
- Practice hard and diligently, do your best and gain self-satisfaction.
- Study the rules and regulations of the academy, for they have been designed for your benefit and your future development in Karate-Do.
- Remember to be consistent and dedicated towards your training, success comes from being disciplined, always maintaining your goals in mind.
- So have fun, good luck and I wish you every success in the journey you have undertaken, the way of empty hand ( Karate Do).
